Kitchen AI is built around data saved on your iPhone. This page explains when optional features send information elsewhere.
In brief: You do not need an online account to use the main app. Personal recipes, inventory, plans, and preferences are saved on your iPhone. If you choose online features, the relevant information leaves your device as described below.
1. Information kept on your iPhone
The app saves your personal recipes, ingredients and inventory, meal plans, cooking progress, preferences, and related profiles in local app storage. Access tokens for optional services are stored in the iPhone Keychain. You can erase local app data from the app's Settings. Deleting the app also removes its local app data, subject to any iOS backup or Apple Health data you manage separately.
If you grant Apple Health access, the app may read permitted health information to display relevant information in the app, and may write meal information when you choose that action. Raw Apple Health samples are not stored in our household database. You can change Health permissions in iOS Settings or the Health app.
2. Optional online features
Shared households
If you create or join a shared household, our server stores an account identifier, display name, a protected account credential, household membership, and information you choose to share. That information may include inventory, meal schedules, cooking records, and profile fields such as dietary preferences or allergies. Other members can access information according to the permissions available in the app. No shared-household account is required for the main app.
Video recipe import
When you submit a YouTube or Xiaohongshu link for video import, the link is sent to our server. The server obtains the public video, prepares a compressed media input, and sends it to an AI processing provider through the configured Qwen/DashScope service to create an editable recipe draft. Do not submit a video containing private information unless you are comfortable with that processing. Temporary media files are removed after the import job. Successful YouTube recipe drafts may be cached on our server for reuse for seven days for the requesting device credential; expired cache records may remain until maintenance removes them.
Recipe and product lookups
When you browse the online recipe catalogue, the app contacts our recipe service. When you look up a barcode, the code is sent to Open Food Facts to retrieve product details. If you import a recipe from a website, the app requests that page from its publisher. These services may receive the information needed to answer the request and ordinary connection information, such as your IP address.
3. Device permissions
Camera access is used for barcode scanning when you start a scan. Speech recognition and microphone access are used when you choose voice input. Notifications are used for cooking reminders if you allow them. You can change these permissions in iOS Settings.
4. Retention and your choices
Local app data remains until you erase it in the app or remove the app, subject to your device backups. Optional shared-household records remain on the server while the household feature is used or until deletion is requested and completed, except where retention is required by law. Disconnecting a device or erasing its local data does not remove server records. We retain service records only as needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service; retention for infrastructure logs and backups can differ from the app's local storage.
To ask about, access, or request deletion of information held on our server, contact frankchenclc@gmail.com. We may ask you to verify your connection to the relevant account. You can also stop using an optional feature and revoke device permissions in iOS Settings.
5. Security and children
We use device storage protections, HTTPS connections for online requests, and protected credentials for optional server access. No system can guarantee complete security. Kitchen AI is a general cooking app and is not directed to children. A household member should manage information entered about a child and share it only with appropriate people.
6. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the app or its services change. We will update the effective date above and provide additional notice for material changes where appropriate. For privacy questions, email frankchenclc@gmail.com or visit Support.
